Features of travelling to Kaliningrad on free trains for 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia

Trains following the route Moscow–Kaliningrad cross the borders of the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Lithuania. In connection with this, to travel by train to/from Kaliningrad it is required to have a number of documents, the list of which is different for citizens of different countries.

To travel in free trains to all the Host Cities of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia, fans should have an ID, a ticket for the match in the city, which a passenger is traveling to (or a confirmed ticket application) and a Fan ID. Accredited FIFA media representative should have an ID and FIFA accreditation.

There are additional rules for travelling by free train to Kaliningrad. Fans and FIFA accredited media representatives who are Russian citizens should present a valid foreign passport and valid Schengen visa for the period of travel or permit for transit through the territory of the Republic of Lithuania. In case of its absence, such document can be issued simultaneously with the booking of tickets on the site tickets.transport2018.com, no later than 28 hours before the train departure. To issue a ticket for a child under 14 years of age, a foreign passport for the child should be provided. Rules are valid for travelling to/from Kaliningrad. Russian citizens are not required to provide any separate documents, when traveling through the Republic of Belarus.

To travel to Kaliningrad, fans who are the citizens of foreign countries should have a valid passport, a Fan ID for traveling through the Republic of Belarus and a document authorizing transit through the territory of the Republic of Lithuania. Citizens of the European Union, citizens of countries with visa-free regime with the EU, and holders of a valid Schengen visa for the period of travel are not required to obtain a transit permit for travel through the Republic of Lithuania.

Accredited FIFA media representatives who are the citizens of foreign countries should have a valid passport and authorizing documents for transit travel through the territory of the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Lithuania. Citizens of the European Union, citizens of countries with visa-free regime with the EU, and holders of a valid Schengen visa for the period of travel are not required to obtain a transit permit for travel through the Republic of Lithuania.

To ensure ease of travel for fans and FIFA accredited media representatives, an additional 734 trains with 448,162 seats to the 11 Host Cities of 2018 World Cup Russia will be provided. Of these, 16 trains go to Kaliningrad and 16 from.

Trains will arrive at the main city railway station “Kaliningrad-Yuzhny”, which has undergone a major upgrade on the eve of the World Cup.
