CEO of the Autonomous nonprofit-organization Transport Directorate of 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia
The high level organization and arrangements of Olympics in Sochi and the Summer Universiade in Kazan were highly estimated by leading experts. Russia has demonstrated its great proficiency in running global sporting events successfully.
However, it is worth mentioning that the World Cup FIFA 2018 would be the first sporting event of such a high level in Russia with a vast geographical distance (3 000 km from the easternmost to the westernmost cities-organizers, Ekaterinburg and Kaliningrad correspondingly, the average distance between all the welcoming cities is 600 km.) A large amount of passengers (local and international fans, official delegations of participating teams and FIFA, FIFA commercial partners, the media, and other client groups) will be transported during World Cup FIFA 2018 in the eleven host cities, located in four time zones and divided into four clusters.
International experience has proved that preliminary transport planning of major sporting events provides a guarantee of the success. Transport plays a vital role in ensuring efficiency and the organizational quality of the World Cup FIFA 2018 in Russia, and many visitors will form their opinion of the host country based on the transport performance.
